It’s Pink Out Month at Garrett Painting!
At Garrett Painting, we’re passionate about supporting our community, and this October, we’re putting the spotlight on breast cancer awareness. As the wife of one of our own long-time employees is now undergoing her own battle with breast cancer, we want to show Jay and Chelle our support, help raise awareness and do what we can through Pink Out Month, October 2024!
Your Paint Job Will Make a Difference
For every interior and cabinet painting job booked in October, Garrett Painting will donate 10% of the project cost to Wilson’s Fitness’s Love Your Locks Program. This program loans cold caps to women going through chemotherapy and was born from a desire from Wilson’s employees to support their director Lisa Acton when she was going through her own fight from cancer.
What are cold caps?
Cold caps are used during chemotherapy to help reduce hair loss, which is a common side effect of many cancer treatments. These caps work by cooling the scalp, which causes blood vessels to constrict. This constriction reduces the amount of chemotherapy drugs that reach the hair follicles, thereby minimizing damage to the cells responsible for hair growth.
The process typically involves wearing the cold cap before, during, and after each chemotherapy session. The cold temperatures help to slow down hair follicle cell activity and make the follicles less vulnerable to the effects of the drugs. While results can vary depending on the type of chemotherapy and individual response, many women find that cold caps can significantly reduce hair loss, helping to preserve their sense of normalcy and self-esteem during a challenging time.
A complete cold cap therapy across several months of chemotherapy could cost anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 or more. It may be covered partly by insurance, but often it is an extra expense for a woman undergoing chemo.
Why did we choose to support Wilson’s Love Your Locks?
We chose to support this program because, as a locally owned, small business in Columbia, serving all of mid-Missouri, we know the difference supporting your neighbors makes. We love knowing that the Love Your Locks program was born from the Wilson’s team’s desire to support one of their own AND because they knew what a positive impact local support can make. If you or a woman you know is battling breast cancer and would like to find out more about their program, please learn more online and reach out to them!
